HowMaker

Privacy policy

This privacy policy explains how HowMaker handles personal information when you use HowMaker, visit this website, create an account, publish or view guides, contact support, or buy a paid plan. Questions about privacy can be sent to legalcontact@howmaker.eu.

Information we collect

We process account and organisation details such as names, email addresses, roles, authentication records and security settings. We also process guide content, screenshots, files, narration, translations, publication settings and other material you choose to store in HowMaker.

When you use the service, we record technical and service information needed for security and operation. This can include IP addresses, browser and device information, timestamps, audit records, login activity, guide-view events, error information and usage totals. Billing records can include plan, subscription, invoice and payment references. Full payment-card details are handled by the configured payment service and are not stored by HowMaker.

Viewer and lead information

Guide owners can enable access controls or lead capture. Where enabled, a viewer can be asked for an email address or passcode before opening a guide. Guide owners are responsible for having a lawful reason to collect viewer information and for explaining their own use of that information where required.

Browser recording and screenshots

When a creator explicitly starts the browser recorder, HowMaker processes screenshots of the visible browser page and limited workflow metadata such as the page title, URL path and the label of the control that was clicked. The recorder does not read or send values typed into form fields. Input, text area, select and editable-field text is masked before each recorder screenshot. URL query strings and fragments are removed before storage.

A screenshot can still contain other information already visible elsewhere on the page. Creators should review recorded steps and use the available blur or permanent redaction tools before publishing content which should not be visible to viewers.

Why we use information

We use information to provide accounts and workspaces, create and publish guides, deliver requested features, secure the service, prevent abuse, provide support, manage subscriptions and licences, send service messages, measure service performance, keep audit records and meet accounting or legal duties.

Legal bases

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, processing will normally rely on performance of a contract, legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where consent is required. The basis depends on the feature and the relationship with the person concerned.

Service providers

HowMaker can use third-party services for hosting, email delivery, billing, licence verification, translation, narration, domain services, security and analytics. Only information needed for the selected function is shared. The exact providers depend on the services enabled by HowMaker.

International transfers

Some service providers can process information outside your country. Where transfer safeguards are required, HowMaker is responsible for selecting suitable providers and putting the required safeguards in place.

Retention

Information is kept only for as long as needed for the service, security, support, billing, audit and legal obligations. Operational retention periods differ by data type. Deleted or expired records can remain in backups for a limited period before normal backup rotation removes them.

Security

HowMaker uses access controls, encrypted connections, protected secret storage, audit logging and other technical safeguards. No online service removes every risk, so users should protect passwords, enable two-factor authentication where available and report suspected misuse promptly.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you can have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of personal information, receive a portable copy, or withdraw consent. You can also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. Contact legalcontact@howmaker.eu to make a privacy request.

Children

HowMaker is intended for business and professional use and is not directed at children. Do not create an account for a child unless the applicable law and the service agreement permit this.

Cookies and similar storage

Essential browser storage is used for security, sessions and requested preferences. Optional analytics storage is used only where enabled and where the required consent has been given. See the Cookie Policy for details.

Changes to this policy

We can update this policy when the service, providers or legal requirements change. The published version on this page is the current version.
